About me

Hello, I’m Katy. I've always loved to dance, as I child I enjoyed nothing more than rolling around my longue floor expressing myself to my Madonna records, I just knew dance made me feel good and enabled a sense of expression that nothing else could. However, I didn't always enjoy formal dance classes as they often left me with a sense of not being good enough. Thankfully I didn't let these negative experiences put me off dance and studied for a BA honour degree in dance and ever since I have been busy working in the field of community dance.

As a community dance artist I’ve had the pleasure of working with adults, children, families and communities from a range of backgrounds, abilities and cultures, and been witness to the difference dance can make to peoples lives.

I’ve always understood the value of dance to peoples’ mental health and I began to see how creativity and movement was often over-looked as a treatment pathway. In 2018, I began my Masters in Movement Psychotherapist (DMP), at the university of Derby so I could work in a clinical way to support others to improve their mental health and wellbeing through movement and dance.

Since graduating with my MA in DMP I’m delighted to say I’ve been busy working in this field since – providing one-to-one and group support for children and adults. This is a hugely fulfilling experience, embracing my creativity and relational skills. It’s a joy to hear clients tell me how dance and movement has made lasting changes for them in ways that talking alone wasn’t able to.

Underpinning all my work is a belief that dance can be for all and within the therapeutic relationship can make a real difference to peoples lives.
